Boston, MA - Elizabeth Warren unveiled her new and improved student loan forgiveness program today at Harvard University in Boston. The updated program will not forgive the loans of students taking engineering, law, accounting or any other degree that has been shown to actually give the graduate a steady income.
Warren explained that they could save over 69% percent of the costs and put that money to other good uses like advanced fast food preparation classes. “Why should we pay off student debt for those degrees that virtually guarantee the graduate a great paying job? They are the ones most able to afford to pay those loans. Degrees in most liberal arts and humanities fields including psychology, theater arts, philosophy and gender studies suffer from low or no wages upon graduation, and are usually forced to take jobs outside of their major. Those are the people most in need.”
Warren also suggested that liberal arts and humanities degree students usually incur additional debt from all of the parties they attend and alcohol they drink. “If you are in your room studying every night, you don’t have to pay for all of the drinks and social activities, so you come out of college with much less debt, and that is just not fair.”
